EEG / Video EEG

What is a Video EEG Study?

A Video EEG study combines a standard EEG with continuous video recording. This means
that while your brain's electrical activity is being monitored, a camera is also recording your
physical movements and behavior. The combination of EEG data with video helps doctors see what happens to you physically during a seizure or other neurological event. This makes it easier to link specific brain activity patterns with visible symptoms.

What Can EEG and Video EEG Help Diagnose?

- Epilepsy and seizure disorders: To determine the type and location of seizures in the brain.

- Sleep disorders: Such as narcolepsy or sleep apnea.

- Brain injuries: To assess the extent of brain damage after a trauma.

- Neurological conditions: Including encephalopathy, brain tumors, or inflammation in the brain.

- Dementia: EEG can help identify patterns of brain activity that are characteristic of different types of dementia, such as Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia, or vascular dementia.  Abnormal slowing or other changes in brain wave patterns may suggest a decline in brain function, helping to distinguish dementia from other cognitive disorders.
EEG and Video EEG are valuable tools for diagnosing a wide range of neurological conditions, including dementia, by providing insights into how the brain is functioning in real-time.
